Florence Sights, Sounds and Hotels
An area of Florence that recalls its glorious past is the Piazza San Lorenzo when the reigning monarch was Cosimo, and artistic vision at its height. Considered one of the finest examples of Rennaissance churches, the San Lorenzo Basilica was built here by Bruelleschi, who began his epic work in 1425. The Basilica was the Medici family’s parish church and as such the Medici Chapels, in particular, are lavishly decorated with magnificent marble and semi-precious stones. Donatello designed the bronze pulpits, and the staircase in the Laurenziana Library, just through the cloister, is another example of Michelangelo’s work.
Florence city is full of interesting and beautiful architecture. Begin your exploration by taking a stroll through the Piazza San Lorenzo and visit Florence's San Lorenzo Church, and no doubt the rest will happen naturally. At the end of the day you can relax in one of the fantastic Florence hotels.
