The Izmir Archaeology Museum houses an important collection of Roman artefacts and ancient relics from the surrounding area. The grounds of the museum are filled with enormous Hellenistic Amphora’s, columns and capitals. Magnificent stone and marble statues of Poseidon, Demeter and Artemis from the altar of Zeus in the Agora are displayed on the lower floor, while the upper floor is devoted to a chronological exhibit of glass, pottery and ceramics. As well as the funerary objects on display is a reconstruction of a third millennium B.C. tomb.
